The difference between a website and a home page
One of the main differences here is that the
homepage tells the people looking at the home page about the main thing that
they are looking at and are able to clearly see what is being advertised on the
website.
Another difference is that there is likely to
be much more information on the website as a whole whereas a homepage only
gives the basic information about what they are looking at the consumer can get
a basic overview of the product.
The official definition of a website is “a set of related web
pages located under a single domain name.” this is very different to the
definition of a homepage definition which is said to be “the introductory page
of a website, typically serving as a table of contents for the site.”
In an artist’s home page, they should include a
video of their latest song and a copy of the song itself. This is to inform the
audience about the song. They should also have news about the artist informing
the audience about the artists keeping up the star image and also to let them
know of live performances.
I have looked at two homepages. The first that
I have looked at is The Weekends. Here we can clearly see as soon as we enter
the page that he is advertising his new song. We then scroll down a little and
see all of his most recent music. He then tells us about the dates that he is
on tour and also where you can buy the tickets.
However, on the website as a whole you are able
to see much more detail about him such as where you are able to buy his
merchandise and also see all of him music rather than just his most recent
songs.
The target audience for the website and band is
clearly people of the younger generations with the colors and the kind of music
that this artist produces. This is shown through the conventions used on the
website and homepage such as the outfits and costumes that he is seen to be
wearing throughout the website and also in his posters. There is limited amount
of technical conventions used on the website other than the short video clip
that plays on the website at the start where. Here we can see this is a pop
artist by the way that the camera is used and how the artist is dancing.
The overall message shown here is that the
artist is a pop musician and he is creating mostly upbeat music. This is giving
us the ideology that he is trying to get across that he is important and that
the focus is on him. This is the impression that we get from the artist and his
website.
Another artists website that I have looked at
has been Mumford and sons. This is very different to ‘the weekend’s’ website. One
of the main differences that we are able to see from this is that this is much
more of a group act than it is a single artist as it focuses on all of the
members of the group. However, it does also have several similar factors to it
such as the colors that the artist uses. They also both advertise their music
and have options to listen to it and to download it. However, on the website
there is also focus on other aspects such as what they are trying to do and
also videos about where they have been rather than just their music.
On both there are also several links to their social
media pages there are also both sections on the news of the artists tours
around the world. However, one of the main differences that we are able to see
is through the photos on the website. Most of the photos in Mumford and sons
are of other people and them with others rather than just themselves. This is
very different to the weekends website where to focus is just on him.
Overall, I believe that “the weekend’s” music campaign
and website is more successful as he is telling the audience more about himself
and is keeping the star image up of him being there and seeing him but also
being distant as there is little information about him as a person unlike Mumford
and son’s website where they tell us more about them meaning that there could
be less demand for them as a result of this.
these are the links to the two websites that I looked at.
