After having completed the filming of the
prelim part one of our short extract of filming we went to edit the scene on
Adobe premiere pro. We started by analysing the whole scene as a whole and
planning what shots we would place within the scene. We thought that if we
placed the shots well we would be able to show what the relationship between
the characters would be.
We started off with a long shot of the two
characters in the scene as it showed clearly the placement of the characters
and where they were standing on the scene. This also helped us to show the
distance between the characters and the tension that we tried to show between
the two characters. We then proceeded with many other shots including both over
the shoulder shots of both of the characters and also close-ups of the
characters and one extreme close up of the door handle.
I learned many new things about the editing of
pieces and films. Firstly, I learned that it was often good to change the
camera angle when there was more action in this scene. One example of this is
when I was exiting the room we did this simple action over three shots. We also
learned as a group that it was good to copy your first original scene and add
it on later on. We did this so that we would have a solid option to film with
and then we also had another film which we were able to play around with and
what camera angles work with the scene. It also helped us so we could edit the
scene to suit a certain mood or to also favour one of the characters so the
characters knew who’s side the audience should support.
Looking back at the footage I would have liked
to do some more interesting shots such as perhaps more angles added to the
shots to shoe the power in the scene and who was in more control. I would have
also liked to add more close up shots of the faces of the character in the scene
so that we were able to create a tense atmosphere through their facial
expression. Finally I would also like to have made more of a distinction
between the two characters. We could have done this by creating a larger gap
between the two characters to show the tension.
This edit has prepared me well for the thriller
as it has taught me many useful ways in which I can create tension and other
ways in which we are able to edit the piece so that we are able to clearly tell
the relationship between the two characters and who is in control and also who
is in power. I have also found this useful as it also gives me an insight into
how I can use many different angles and the effect that this shot will have on
the scene.
This is the final finished product for our Prelim task 1

Overall I found the process very useful and a
good way to set myself up for the filming of the thriller. Although there were
a few difficulties in editing the film It was very useful to get to know the
editing software better.
