There are many key parts to this poster. One of these is how it clearly states the actors and the director clearly on the front. Such as Samuel L Jackson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Fox. This tells us the actors who are involved in the film. This is useful to the audience as certain actors are in certain types of films such as Will Ferrell only does comedy films. Many of the actors in this film are more suited to serious films such as Jamie Fox.
This
poster tells us a lot about the film in many ways. Firstly, we can easily tell
the genre of the film. We can easily tell right from the first glance at the
poster that this is a western. This can be seen from the costume of the
characters as Django at the front is wearing the costume that everyone thinks
of when watching a western film. There are also many props that lead us to
believe that this is a western film such as the traditional pistols that we
always see in these films. There are also other props such as the hats worn by
two of the actors on the poster which are traditional hats worn in westerns.
The
target audience for this film from looking at the poster would generally be
young men and the older generations who are able to watch this. I think this
because on the backdrop of the poster there seems to be blood splattered on the
wall behind the actors. Blood is also referenced from how the writing is red
and not some bright happy color to engage children or to show it as being a
chick flick movie. This immediately tells us as the audience that this is a
violent and bloody film with standout colors that immediately get our attention
and use colors which we associate with two things love and blood and looking at
the rest of the poster it seems like it is based on blood. We can also tell it
is a serious film from the facial expressions of the actors as none of them are
smiling they are all looking seriously into the camera. The blood in this poster
is also emphasized further by how the rest of the poster is in black and white.
This could also tell the audience that the film was set a long time ago as it
relates to the black and white films. so
We
can guess from the film that this film is more about the story of the man at
the front as he is the stand out character that emerges from this scene that is
quickly followed by the two people standing behind him who we will believe are
either going to be the helper in this story or the person who is trying to stop
Django from succeeding. We can also see a little a bit of inequality in this
poster as although Django is at the front of the poster the other two
characters seem to be dressed better.
It
also clearly states the release date of the film this is useful for the audience
as it clearly shows at the bottom of the poster that it is going to be released
on Christmas day. This would be a good time to release the film as it would be
when many people have time of work and will take holidays so they can enjoy Christmas.
This would also mean that the film would come out in the cinemas all the way until
new year which is also a long holiday season.
There
is also a clear tag line at the top of the poster saying “life, Liberty and the
pursuit of vengeance”. This gives us a vague idea of what the film will be
about. This tells us that it is about racism of some kind from “liberty” and also
how there will be some violence from how it says “vengeance” as this usually
means that there is
fighting of some kind.
