genre is a style or category of art music literature or film. Genre is useful for both the audience and the institution. It is useful for the audience as it helps them to understand what to expect from the film and it also means that people will not be happy to watch the film or not. It is also helpful for the institution as it helps them to know how to market the product. This could be done by when the movie is released and also how they advertise it in posters and in trailers.

There are many types of genre. The main ones include

However there are also sub genre and hybrid genres. A sub-genre is a subordinate within a genre. for example as there are not very many political films many will not be called political but instead is called a political thriller. or in the same case a murder mystery.
