Running up
to our shoot day we decided to allocate roles to each of the members in our
group. I was given the role of the main camera man. This involved me helping
out in many ways throughout the day but as the name suggests there was one main
job for me. Guy was given the role of the main editor and Sean was given the
role of Director of the shoot.
As the main
focus of the camera operator was to ensure that I used the camera correctly and
get all of the necessary shots that our group needed in order to create this
video. I had to ensure that I didn’t catch the outsides of the set and to try
and make the scene seem like the real thing.
We all had
to work together as a group on the day of the shoot. I feel like we
communicated well on the day between the three of us and we all got involved in
expressing our ideas. This ended up meaning that we got plenty of shots and
were able to successfully make it engaging and also enjoyable on the day.
Before the
shoot I had to make sure I knew how to use the camera and the different lenses
that we would be using. This was helpful for me as on the day I knew what I was
doing and could operate the camera with ease. Luckily for me I had also had
previous experience with the camera in the past which luckily the school had
provided. This meant that I didn’t have to bring in any equipment on the day. I
also had to look at the shot list however beforehand so I knew what kind of
shots we were after. My role was vital in the making of the video on the shoot
day as I was needed at every stage to think about the staging of the shot and
actually shooting it.
I was able
to look at the test footage beforehand to see what kind of dancing they would
be doing. I did this so on the day I knew it would be quite flowing and that it
would perhaps be better to follow the movement of the actresses rather than
stick to their faces perhaps.
I was told
before the day that I would need to make sure that Dyers star image was applied
to the video. I tried my best to apply this by getting up and close to the lead
singer so that the audience were able to relate to him and see his expression
as being bored however I also made sure that he was seen as distant in the way
that he was dressed well and that he was surrounded by four women.
I also knew
that I needed to engage my target audience. I wanted to do this by making sure
that I got this relaxed phsycadelic feel to the song by keeping it calm
throughout and keeping the camera in a tripod and on the dolly rather than
having it handheld so that it was always stable and calm. This was then helped
by the way that the dancers were dancing.
On the day
of the shoot the other two were assigned different jobs. Sean’s main job on the
day was to act as the director. Here we was to organise what he wanted in the
shots and the positioning that we thought was good for the shot. Guy was given
the role of the main editor. Although me and Sean would have a say in the way
that the video is edited guy would be the person who was mainly working on the
editing.
